2020 International Print Competition
For the third time, I entered one of the biggest print competitions of the year. International Print Competition (IPC) is sponsored by Professional Photographers of America (PPA) the largest organization in the country of professional photographers. Participating in these competitions has been a great way for me to strive and grow as a photographer and an artist.
Each artist can enter up to 4 images in the competition. The images are judged by a panel of trained judges based on 12 elements. These elements include impact, creativity, story telling and technique. If enough judges feel the image met the criteria of these elements, the image earns a merit. Merits can be applied to a Master of Photography degree.
All images that earn a merit, go on for a second round of judging. Images that earn a second merit are entered into the Loan Collection. This year over 5,200 hundred images were entered in the competition. Of those, 1706 images were selected for the general collection (earning one merit) and 865, the best of the best, were selected for the Loan collection.
I am happy to share that 2 of the 4 images I entered into this year’s competition earned a merit. In addition, my image, Red Hot Redhead, was selected for the Showcase Collection. These images are considered the best of the best from the General Collection and are published in an annual book by Marathon Press. This is the third time one of my images was selected for the Showcase. I couldn’t be more thrilled!
I am now 2 more merits closer to earning my Master of Photography degree. My goal is to earn my final 4 merits at next year’s competition. Since this year’s competition got pushed back because of the pandemic, that will be here before I know it!
