A Frenchie named Brie
So what does a California dog think of Florida beaches? From the looks of these images, I think she very much approves!
I recently had the pleasure of photographing Brie, a french bulldog, and her mom who split time between the two coasts. I’m not sure if CA or FL beaches are the best, but I think it’s safe to say, this pup is living the dream life! During our initial chat, Brie’s mom and I not only discussed goals for the session, but also where the session would take place.
When she shared with me that she wanted a very Floridian backdrop and the beach fit that bill perfectly, little did she know she was about to make one of my dreams come true. Ever since I moved to the sunshine state, I had been wanting to photograph a frenchie on the beach at sunset.
Typically, the weather in Florida is pretty predictable - sunshine all day long with rain for a few hours during the hot humid sunny afternoons. On this day, it was overcast from morning to night. At times, I worried it might rain, so as I headed to Venice’s only dog beach, I watched the sky very closely. We got lucky and the clouds parted for a bit, before more rolled in. While the sunset was a bust, we had awesome light, even if only briefly.
Brie had been to the dog beach a couple of times and loved meeting and making new friends. Like a typical frenchie, she was playful, chummy and at times a little too “friendly”. Frenchies are known for not having a large personal space and don’t think anything of getting close to others.
I was thrilled that Brie’s mom wanted to be in the photos too. We can all make every excuse under the sun for not wanting to be photographed, but honestly, the best gift we can give to ourselves and those who love us, is to be photographed. I know it’s cliche, but time is so precious, every day is a gift and one day, you’ll look back and be grateful for those images.
